The mural-sized painting was\nexhibited in his solo exhibition “Mga Kwento, Panaginip at Panalangin” for Art Fair Philippines in 2022. <br /><br />\nAmidst misty outskirts, figures intermesh with mismatched eyes and feet on shoulders. In the distance stand detailed high-rise structures. With reflections on the pandemic, the artist lays bare vulnerabilities that remind us of the necessity for interconnectedness. Despite this, the image focuses on the figurations rather than a descriptive narrative, exemplifying the artist’s signature style of Hyperrealism collaged in the manner of the Cubist movement: <br /><br />\nJara’s technique achieves his meticulously painted paper-like textures of the skin. If the body is taken in parts, throbbing veins on the hands and feet show a clear understanding of anatomy. While renditions of expressive eyes and stray strands of hair suggest attention to each figure’s identity. <br /><br />\nAfter Cubism, with particular favor for Picasso, Jara transmutes the human body to arrange dynamic perspectives of form. He deconstructs and distorts proportions of the flesh to varying degrees and overlapping planes. In compositions rarely yet explored, the artist maintains familiar subjects while blurring the boundaries between two- and three-dimensional depths. Ryan Jara (b. 1983) is at the forefront of cultivating a new aesthetic, marked by dramatic compositions in monumental sizing. The Filipino visual artist and painter finished a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Technological University of the Philippines in 2003, going on to win recognition in juried competitions such as the Philippine and ASEAN Art Awards. In 2022, he held a highly-received solo exhibition with Artinformal gallery, “Through This Hallowed Aperture I Gaze”. He has held significant solo exhibitions at White Walls Gallery, Kaida Contemporary, Art Cube, Secret Fresh, Big and Small Art Co., Art Verite, and the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
