As a testament to her masterful use of various media, this particular work conveys the beauty of nature — the wavy contours of the glass and the rugged form of the stone embody a splash of water on a rocky shore. <br /><br />A fervent advocate of environmental and ecological causes, the oeuvres of Pilapil exalt the serene harmony of the earth, water, and air. And although she works with a variety of mediums, Pilapil has a special affinity for the two materials used in this piece. Since the ‘90s, glass has become a principal medium of her creative output. The raw blocks of glass called “cullets,” especially green and aqua in color, are hand-carved using a chisel, diamond blades, or specially crafted tools and polished with wood, cowhide, or chemicals. On the other hand, Pilapil seeks out unique pieces of stones - the Romblon marble as her favorite - weathered through time, and some of them have been sitting in her studio for years before finally becoming a work of art.
