Here, the styles and techniques of his former mentors and foremost influences—De la Rosa’s realism and Amorsolo’s swift brushwork and thick impastos—come into play, resulting in Custodio’s paintings possessing a rich textural quality. Three of the works at hand—Untitled (1978), Harvest Time, and Market Scene—are considered rarities because of their larger dimensions compared to almost every previously auctioned work by the artist. Untitled (1980) manifests his creative appetite for depicting bancas and seascapes, which he enjoyed painting in his youth.

Throughout his artistic career, Custodio’s works always retained that certain degree of realism, capturing an almost photographiclike image of the subject, stemming from his practice of painting on location. As such, Custodio’s works are perceived and produced directly from nature.

Custodio also imbibes to his viewer the idyllic spirit of the countryside, seemingly transporting them to a mystical realm devoid of the fragility of the human condition.
