He studied and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Painting and Visual Communication at the country’s foremost art school, the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts. He then started joining group exhibitions in 2009 and then eventually put up a one-man show in 2011.<br /><br /> Oliveros’ use of monochromatic tones and hues, especially that of the color grey, is refreshingly unconventional yet exudes a romantic and timeless beauty. His portrait lends itself a poignant and even nostalgic sense of reflection and longing by playing with the mnemonic connotations that are inherent to monochrome by harking back to the days of film photography and the “decisive moment”of Henri-Cartier Bresson. Yet, through a point of tension, Oliveros manages to capture a perceived sense of vibrancy in his singular tones by virtue of his masterful depiction of the human form, anatomy, and expression. The greyness of the canvas is poised in such a way that breathes an alien yet familiar sensation of life into his undoubtedly naturalistic imagery such as the flora found on his subject’s clothing, to the almost palpable sensation of the rabbit’s coat. It is this synthesis that renders Oliveros’ treatment wholly unique. The artist’s work continually maps the unnameable landmarks in memory, and as he says it, “I am looking forward to more unknown offerings and more transitions.” Life is vague, absurd, and grey. In the words of the late American photographer Joel Sternfield “Black and white is abstract; color is not.
