Despite the disposition of his peers, Villamael did not seek the liberating expressiveness of the artistic medium as the teleological goal of his craft. Instead, Villamael sought to find meaning in the intricate and deliberate handiwork of his mode and method of creation. His medium of intricate and delicate latticed ornamental constructions challenge the limits of traditional paper-based patchwork seemingly gravity-defying solid imagery and iconography. After graduating in 2009, he found himself participating in various international exhibits in Singapore, Hong Kong, the UK, Australia and France. His innate persistence and hardened discipline, subjected his creations towards a tempered sense of development.

Villamael’s primary interest lies in the physicality of his work rather than its conceptual connotations.
