These trips allowed him to create a number of works perfectly encapsulating the glorious countryside life. “These frequent sojourns to the countryside afforded Papa the chance to depict the activities of the rural folks as well,” Sylvia Amorsolo Lazo, the maestro’s daughter, recollected in Maestro Fernando C. Amorsolo: Recollections of the Amorsolo Family published in 2009.
\n
Other than his bucolic countryside paintings of the bountiful rice fields and harvest season themes, Amorsolo also blessed the art scene with his mesmerizing seascapes. Painted with oil, the artist’s favored medium, Amorsolo’s 1967 Seascape, presented a majestic scenery and captured the diligent and hardworking qualities of provincial life. In this piece, he depicted a group of fishermen aboard their banca on full sail, on their way for a plentiful catch. On the horizon is the magnificent Mt. Mariveles and an awe-inspiring panorama of a twilight sky, the sun slowly going down the horizon.
\n
Amorsolo’s long years of artmaking, traversing various subjects and mediums, culminated in his renowned style and light and provided inspiration to the succeeding generation of artists. His landscapes and seascapes never fail to highlight the country’s timeless beauty, preserving it for the succeeding generations. Amorsolo’s illustrious career has earned him several awards and recognitions, including the first National Artist of the Philippines. Consequently, his works have been the centerpiece of numerous art spaces: exhibitions, museums, galleries, and private collections.
