With a massive cast of characters numbering nine, The Mountain contains echoes of religious and mythical allusions – in particular with one man kissing the feet of a woman in an interesting role reversal of a tale in the Gospel books. In the original story, it was a sinful woman who kissed the feet of Jesus Christ and anointed them with perfume. Several interesting characters also occupy the canvas – a pair in a Greek robe and Roman toga; a trio in a fairytale ensemble; a pied pier and a dancer. Here, Marcel’s storytelling is at its strongest; he gave the viewers a cast of characters and an implied backstory to chew upon.
