A pivotal color in the history of art, gray brings to mind the indefinite and the unknown – like the expression “gray area,” the color itself speaks of contradictions. It is an additive or subtractive element used to either emphasize a hue or add depth. However, in this work, gray is not a supporting character but the protagonist itself with various shades of it occupying nearly every square inch.
\n
In this piece, Pacquing shows his unique approach to abstraction – he blends texture and colors, creating depths through the simplest of brush strokes. He limits the color palette to its minimum and as such, he invites the viewers to peer into a subtle and evocative work where details emerge to those who are patient enough to conduct a close inspection. Details done seemingly at random disprove whatever stability the viewer might be connecting to the piece, creating a dynamic work that draws a sense of mystery and energy, a particular talent Pacquing draws into his works.
