Since his rise to fame, up to date, one can easily spot an Amorsolo piece in government and private offices, museums and galleries, schools, books, postcards, and tourism pamphlets. For a long time, the Amorsolo genre dominated the Philippine art scene, characterized by its realistic images of the sumptuous Filipino rural life, landscapes, and everyday activities depicted in vibrant hues.
\n
Amorsolo’s versatility is evident in the thousands of paintings and drawings he produced throughout his career, using mediums such as oil, acrylic, pastel, charcoal, and graphite and making expert use of canvases, boards, and papers as his base. His use of these materials allowed him to capture the essence of his subjects in different ways.
\n
Aside from his scenic countryside paintings, he also made a number of glittering riverscapes. Like any of his works, Stream immortalizes nature’s timeless beauty and serenity. Devoid of any figure and bustling activities, this 1946 oil painting depicts a river stream in its calmest state. An abundance of trees and lush greenery surround the bank, reflected in the clear and clean waters; the clear blue sky further adds to its tranquility.
\n
The entirety of this piece gives off a late-afternoon vibe. The sun was slowly losing altitude, giving the stream a subtle and soft glow, the last bits of sunlight touching the surface that couldn’t reach the shade of the trees. Concealed at the heart of the forest and away from the public eye, Amorsolo’s rivers and streams are where his dalagas take their time bathing and resting.
\n
Light has been a significant element in Amorsolo’s oeuvre, a product of his knowledge and organization of colors. His bright and lyrical attributes faultlessly demonstrate his skill as a master colorist. The light from his concocted sun graced his paintings, creating not only an illusion of sunlight but also a sense of warmth that envelops his landscapes and figures.
","lot_group":"PAINTING","lot_details_html":null,"alias":null,"hp":2600000,"bp":0.2016,"isWithdrawn":0,"accounting_hp":2600000,"userBid":5926,"isPaid":0,"userId":22,"lot_status":"SOLD","isDone":1,"bid_history_id":null,"reserve_price":null,"hammer_price":3124160,"fav":0},"image":[{"id":56917,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/107/141/lot/45.jpg","isFeatured":1},{"id":57083,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/107/141/lot/45a.jpg","isFeatured":0},{"id":57082,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/107/141/lot/45c.jpg","isFeatured":0},{"id":57081,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/107/141/lot/45b.jpg","isFeatured":0}]},"increment":[2200000,2400000,2600000,2800000,3000000,3200000,3400000,3600000,3800000,4000000,4200000,4400000,4600000,4800000,5000000,5500000,6000000,6500000,7000000,7500000,8000000,8500000,9000000,9500000,10000000,11000000,12000000,13000000,14000000,15000000,16000000,17000000,18000000,19000000,20000000],"prev":44,"next":46,"count_bid":0,"bid_history":[],"tokenExpired":1}
