Malang’s “master colorist” reputation is once\nagain manifested in this 1995 oil on canvas work. The figures,\nwith their elongated necks, thick limbs, and taut expressions, are\nbrought to life by the use of light, yellowish colors set against\na monochromatic green background resembling leaves. The\nmother, carrying a basket of fruits while delicately holding her\nchild, is a poignant representation of the Filipinos’ hardworking\nnature and deep familial affection.
