Exploring minimalism in both painting and sculpture, Pacquing is noted to use a myriad of objects with no notable relation to one another (both in functionality and aesthetics) as he introduces paradoxes and coexisting ideals within one canvas.
\n
Distraught Clown takes Pacquing’s signature minimalism and takes it to the next level. This abstraction eschews the usual technique when he takes the figurative aspect and distorts it to just a point where the organic reality is still vaguely recognizable. In Distraught Clown, one can see the vague approximation of a bed and the window but not much else. It gives the mind a free pass to wander, to fill in the blanks in only the way they can. The shades of yellow, black, and brown are the only reprieve to an otherwise monotonous grey painting. Thus, they serve as a jumping point for the audience to create their own conclusions.
\n
Minimalist in its truest sense, Pacquing’s abstraction is a relief from the dogmatism that clamps down on any extensive schools of styles. He brings his distinct sense of Zen minimalism to his works, shining a bright spotlight on an object’s ephemeral nature and his unique perspective on spatial awareness.
