This period was also his Dimasalang group era, where he practiced painting in plein air with Emilio Aguilar Cruz, Andres Cristobal, Ibarra de la Rosa, and Sofronio Mendoza. This technique was first introduced to him by his uncle, allowing him to directly observe his subjects and paint scenes in their natural lighting.</p>\n<p>This piece features the interior of the Santa Ana Church in the Santa Ana district of Manila. Galicano&rsquo;s masterful and delicate brush strokes enabled him to perfectly illustrate the altar&rsquo;s intricate details. Moreover, he painted it as though it was a scene directly observed by the naked eye, capturing the solemn and dignified qualities of the church.</p>\n<p>Born to a family of artists from Cebu, Romulo Galicano was exposed to the arts early in his life. His oeuvre is a testament to his continuous growth and development, his works boast of remarkable technicality. The artist&rsquo;s mastery of color and tone, composition, and materials came from the lessons and influences he accumulated from his early youth, up to his academy years, and finally his incessant practice. Hence, his oeuvre underwent several changes and phases, each contributing to his artistic voice.
