The idea of colorscapes emerged first as a result of his travels around the world, specifically in Japan where certain Japanese qualities became evident through his delicate color nuances.
\n
This is evident in his Colorscape XIV, XI, and X. From the mountain to the sea, Samonte’s colorscapes perfectly depicted its landscapes even through simple colors and shapes – one could pick out the rolling mountains on one piece and the sun setting into the horizon as viewed from the seaside in another. Through these works, Samonte’s absolute dedication to abstraction is on full display, a commitment that transcended generations of artists to come.
