During this, he began to experiment with movement and dynamics, inspired by the works of the American abstractionists, and that inspiration is evident here. Cityscapes bears the beginnings of Joya’s nonfigurative abstractions with the overlooking view transformed to all but shapes and lines. Its dynamic movement is beginning to take place, an art style that will eventually elevate Joya to the status of National Artist.
