Before his acclaimed wooden sculptures, he used to form animal and human figures with clay soil from termite hills in the rice fields during his carefree childhood years in Albay. But aside from being a celebrated sculptor, he was also an artist who drew. This lot features two of Rocha’s nude sketches, which served as a preliminary practice to his sculpture-making, illustrating his artistic virtuoso and unique form of abstracting the human body.
