With these three sketches, all done in 1975, Severino’s innate knowledge of the human anatomy is on full display. Depicting the woman in various poses, Severino strips the nude of its eroticism; instead, he depicts the women in states of distress and despair. Like his Vanishing Scenes, which evoke constructions of memories and history, his nude portraits allude to days long past. They are snapshots that would have otherwise been lost in the past, making these depictions all the more striking.
