Though better known for his seascapes, Laxa’s Nayon combines the sea with the provincial landscape as he portrays a series of nipa huts placed directly above a body of water. These types of houses are usually built for fishing, a booming livelihood in the Philippines due to its qualification as an archipelago. It is no wonder that Laxa is fond of the sea, as he was born in a fishing barrio in Guagua, Pampanga. These images have blossomed throughout his childhood and, as it seems, transferred to bloom onto his canvases.
