Painted in 1975, Bagong Buhay shows Doctor’s mastery in watercolor, depicting a serene landscape as if being observed from afar: houses surrounded by lush greenery, backgrounded by a magnificent mountain range, and placed under a clear sky. The artist skillfully utilized a wet-on-wet technique in this piece, dipping a wet brush on the colors and applying it on the damp surface of the paper, creating blotches of paint that blend with one another. This technique resulted in a bleary image that evokes a peaceful and restful mood, as if someone just opened their eyes after a long, deep sleep.
