This untitled piece from 1974 is a fascinating fusion of Justin Nuyda and Cesar Legaspi’s distinct artistry. As modernists and esteemed members of the Saturday Group, Nuyda and Legaspi have collaborated on numerous paintings. Legaspi, known for his adherence to Cubism and his fragmented yet coherent forms that focus on social injustices and the plight of the working classes, joins forces with Nuyda, revered for his mindscape series that goes beyond mere depiction to encapsulate a dynamic process of seeking and perceiving.

Nuyda and Legaspi’s mastery breathes life into every stroke and color, bringing their viewers to a world where reality and dreams collide. In this piece, the artists employed a wet-on-dry technique, dipping a wet or slightly damp brush on the paint and onto the dry surface of the canvas. This process allows the wet paints to blend perfectly while the dried parts result in coarse strokes, adding texture. Additionally, the artists use complementary colors, purple and yellow, and tone it down with white, giving the piece a calming sensation and further developing a spectrum of emotion that profoundly resonates with the viewers.
