A “picture of the sights” as his website puts it, Nuyda manages to distill one’s emotional well-being into magnificent and familiar landscapes.
\n

This 1975 work embodies the same idea. In shades of brown and white, Nuyda’s piece echoes a barren wasteland, brown sand against amber skies. It seems as though the viewer is seeing mirror images reflected from top to bottom, making the piece seem almost never-ending. This openness in interpretation makes Nuyda’s work endure, marking him as one of the most eminent contemporary abstractionists of his time.
