It bears the artist’s signature colorful palette and arbitrary but dainty brush strokes. Malang’s\nlandscapes are known for his distinctive employment of space, an almost bilateral division between the\ncity and the sky. And in this specific piece, the line of his famed kaleidoscopic barung-barongs, with the titular\nbricked church at the center, serves as the middle ground. Dominated by blues and yellows, this work exudes\nequal vibrancy and calmness.\nMalang’s passion for his work is perhaps the most significant factor in his success. He enjoys what he is doing,\nand this joy is evident in this 1988 work created during his fruitful third decade in the art industry.
