This painting, done in 2016, echoes the avenging angels that scatter throughout Hilario’s sculpting oeuvre. An ornately dressed man sits in an equally lavish chair, crown resting comfortably on his head as he looks onward placidly. He is raising his hands, perhaps in surrender or as a gesture of peace. The assortment of objects scattered on the table in front of him paints an interesting story, one that the reader will have to figure out for themselves.
