As a 2006 Asian Cultural Council grantee, del Castillo stands tall among the Philippines’ most celebrated contemporary visual artists. His works, distinguished by their unique portrayal of his subject matter, redefine the traditional icon, delineating the conflicts and contrasts between humanity and apathy, politics and strife, faith and hate. The artist’s signature style of shrouding his figures’ faces in full-face gas masks and incorporating gold leaves adds an element of enigma, further enhancing the allure of his art pieces.
