To ease his boredom, he found a close relationship with pencil and paper, drawing for hours. His love of drawing intensified over the years, leading him to pursue proper and formal art education in the years that followed. He did not let his color blindness hinder his capabilities, and instead, he focused more on form and composition rather than color. Moreover, his adept use of pen and ink allowed him to manipulate his materials to yield different shades and tones. Cesar Legaspi’s artistic career, which spanned almost six decades, left a collection of works that illustrate the evolution of modern art in the Philippines. He was a key f igure in the Filipino neo-realist movement, known for his fragmented yet coherent forms that focused on social injustices and the plight of the working classes. These 1976 and 1984 nude drawings, devoid of his infamous fragmented torsos, exhibit Legaspi’s mastery of the human body. Drawn with pastel, these works are a testament to his admirable artistry, which traversed various themes, styles, and mediums.
