His first one-person exhibition was held in 1981 at the Luz Gallery when he was 21 years old. Since then, he has had over 40 solo exhibitions in numerous galleries, establishing himself as a notable artist in the current Filipino art scene. Soler has been known to paint subjects culled from nature, but his primary interest lies in observing different environments. Initially a magic realist, Santos’ technical proficiency has shone through in his works. From his Leaves series to his Derelict series, there is an inimitable touch of realism on display, his stylization of subjects an impeccable showing of creative genius. Obscure is his choice of themes, drawing inspiration from nature and natural forms to concoct his unique, alluring brand of art. From his Leaves series to his Derelict series, there is an inimitable touch of realism on display, his stylization of subjects an impeccable showing of creative genius. This artwork, ever bearing a magic realist character, flaunts the artist’s refined yet youthful sensibilities.
