Drawing inspiration from the everyday life of Antiqueño’s he observed while growing up, Moscoso’s paintings are populated by the common folk engaged in various activities, such as farming, f ishing, children playing, and people enjoying a moment of relaxation after a day of toil. Moscoso’s works demonstrate his keen knowledge of color and form, situating his famed washed sepia-colored individuals against a solid red and black background. This technique creates contrast in his images, further uplifting his subjects, as evidenced in his 1996 Holy Mother and Child, where the artist ingeniously integrated the mother and child theme with his usual rural theme. The artist’s unrivaled artistry and exceptional representation of the Filipino countryside have earned him numerous awards and recognition throughout his career. One of his notable achievements was being one of the 13 Outstanding Young Artists awardees of the Art Association of the Philippines in 1975, at the age of just 23.
