His images often feature his ingenious incorporation and interpretation of Philippine mythology. Austria’s works are marked by his linear and meticulous brushwork, with every fine stroke almost discernible, a testament to his dedication and precision, leaving his audience in awe. His canvases also showcase his expert manipulation of color, with a tonal palette contrasted by sepia brown hues, exuding a nostalgic, provincial feel. What distinguishes Austria is his ability to infuse his pieces with his romanticist sensibilities, subtly blended with cubism, creating realistic images with varying lines and forms that bring his figures to life and suggest movement. In 1970, Tam Austria’s artistic prowess was recognized when he was included in the roster for the first-ever Thirteen Artists Awards, honored by the esteemed Cultural Center of the Philippines.
