He was part of the Philippine classical realist movement that celebrated the timeless principles of beauty, harmony, and proportion from the 1920s through the 1940s. While many of his peers focused mainly on oil painting, Miranda distinguished himself by mastering the medium of watercolor. He frequently created portraits using both watercolor and oil on canvas, including notable works such as the “Portrait of Maria Lourdes L. Estella,” which he completed in 1952. Miranda’s artworks showcase his exceptional representational abilities, skillfully utilizing light and shadow to capture the dignity and beauty of his subjects.
