Blanco became known for his murals of Angono life. The Rockefeller Foundation of New York acquired his Pag-ahon ng Pagoda in the 1970s, a depiction of the fluvial parade highlighting the feast of San Clemente, Angono’s patron saint. Despite being a folk artist, he was academically trained, as he entered the School of Fine Arts at the University of Santo Tomas in 1951, where his faculty included top modernists of Philippine art history. His works have also been likened to those of another famous son of Angono, the late National Artist Carlos “Botong” Francisco. This piece reflects Blanco’s preference to lean into Filipino Subject matters as it showcases his tribute to mothers and their nurturing roles; hence, the piece is entitled Pahiyas, which means “A precious Offering”- with the piece symbolizing Blanco’s “tribute”.
