His landscapes were featured in classrooms all over the country before World War II. In the 1930s, he began painting seascapes and depicting seashore scenes with fishing boats, using pastel shades such as pink, orange, and lavender. \nHard lines and a dark, realistic palette, with a recurring theme of fishing and seashore scenes, characterize his style. His fine brush strokes, excellent manipulation of light and depth, and expert composition all convey the bucolic Philippine countryside. Rural scenery is a common sight in his oeuvre – from churches to seascapes, Ancheta portrays these landscapes with an insight that is unique to the pre-war Philippines, a time when the country’s rural beauty was largely untouched by modernization. \nAncheta’s works are not just paintings but windows to the past. They are imbued with an almost tangible nostalgia for the days that have passed, offering viewers an unblemished look at a world preserved through enduring landscapes. His paintings allow us to see the world as the artist saw it: a rural, pastoral, and tranquil landscape, simple in its beauty.
