He later studied Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines, where he was taught by Filipino masters Fernando Amorsolo and Fabian dela Rosa, whose influences are evident in his works. Custodio adopted the academic, traditional style in his artmaking, focusing on landscapes and genre painting. One distinctive quality of Custodio’s works is his employment of thick impastos, which add a rich texture to his images, making them more alive and engaging. \nCustodio’s paintings have been featured in several galleries, exhibitions, and private collections both locally and internationally, including his My Fishing Village, an award-winning piece at the 1955 UN International Art Competition, which graces the walls of the UN building in New York. More than an artist, Custodio was a mentor, and his brilliance will forever live on in the works he contributed to the art scene, as well as the lessons and influences he imbued in his students’ lives, a legacy that continues to inspire.
