A well-loved snack enjoyed during the sweltering Philippine heat, it is common to find vendors on every corner of the country as they keep halo-halo’s iconic ingredients spread across the table. Red beans, jelly, ube, and leche flan are laid carefully across the vendor, who holds in her hand a makeshift swatter to keep the flies away. This small perspective on the life of a Filipino offers, more than anything, a nuanced look into his life. Like the Filipino, Austria’s works are vibrant, colorful, and maximalist in every sense of the word.
