Both women partake of favorite Amorsolo themes, from “Cooking the Noonday Meal”, which the woman briskly attends to in the foreground, stirring an earthenware pot over an open fire. There is a basket of sweet fruit and vegetable ingredients beside her. Her tiny tot, her head covered to shield her from the summer heat, is captured listening to what can only be her grandfather — another familiar character from Amorsolo’s canon, who his family has confided was one of their manservants.
A hen and a rooster represent the Filipino family in microcosm. It is also a nod to the favorite pastime of
grandfather, who in other Amorsolo paintings is depicted with a fighting bird.
A second woman, carrying a baby not quite ready to walk, stands in the shade of the spreading branches of the classic Amorsolo mango tree.
In the distance, able-bodied men work the fields to harvest the precious grain. A trusty carabao hauls a cart.
The painting is outlined with a blue mountain, one of the dozens that dot the territory of Negros Occidental. This particular artwork was presented to Mr. and Mrs. J.W. McMaster of the Hawaiian-Philippine Company, the oldest surviving sugar mill in the country and located in the town of Silay in that province.","lot_group":"PAINTING","lot_details_html":null,"alias":null,"hp":12000000,"bp":0.2016,"isWithdrawn":0,"accounting_hp":12000000,"userBid":null,"isPaid":0,"userId":22,"lot_status":"SOLD","isDone":1,"bid_history_id":null,"reserve_price":null,"hammer_price":14419200,"fav":0},"image":[{"id":62018,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/116/150/lot/107.jpg","isFeatured":1},{"id":62159,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/116/150/lot/107d.jpg","isFeatured":0},{"id":62158,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/116/150/lot/107a.jpg","isFeatured":0},{"id":62157,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/116/150/lot/107c.jpg","isFeatured":0},{"id":62156,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/116/150/lot/107b.jpg","isFeatured":0}]},"increment":[11000000,12000000,13000000,14000000,15000000,16000000,17000000,18000000,19000000,20000000],"prev":106,"next":108,"count_bid":0,"bid_history":[],"tokenExpired":1}
