With his previous decade marked by his Serie Negra, his return to color was a tentative one, marked by touches of hues and saturation.<br> However, one of Zóbel’s greatest sources of inspiration at the time was nature. Moving into Cuenca in the 1970s, the county’s lush surroundings served as Zóbel’s protagonist for the time period. Several of his most famous series center on nature and its beauty, including the lot at hand.<br.> La Vista X belongs to his ‘La Vista’ series, a series that portrays Zóbel’s view of the Cuenca landscape from his windowpane. This particular La Vista features that familiar gorge of the Cuenca mountains, but constrained into a small rectangular view as though peering from a window. This series was created near the tail end of his nature phase, thus giving Zóbel the ability to reduce his landscapes into their most distilled forms. La Vista X deploys Zóbel’s tools<br> of geometry in order to rearrange the landscapes into refreshing, yet recognizable, views. Zóbel's proportionate positioning of his elements creates reticent and sensible horizontal and vertical lines. These elements, combined with his subsequent exit from landscapes, yield an unreal, almost metaphorical picture of nature, a clear indication of Zóbel's entrance to yet another of his famous series, now enriched with his previous learnings.
