His 1984 work, as the title suggests, Bayanihan, portrays a group of people working together to build a bahay kubo. Bayanihan is not only a practice deeply rooted in Filipino culture, but it also symbolizes unity and cooperation. Additionally, it bears a communal spirit where people are always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, whether they’re acquaintances or strangers.

This oil painting embodies Austria’s signature art style—a simplistic image that bursts with color, reminiscent of a child’s oil pastel drawing. The childlike aesthetic, with its innocence and simplicity, adds a layer of naivety to his images, evoking a sense of nostalgia and sentimentality. Austria’s other works involve traditional jeepneys, vendors, and market scenes, whose sounds and the smell of smoke almost permeate through his canvas.

Antonio Austria proudly presents the Philippine culture and heritage with every stroke and color. His unique artistry, though some may find it funny and childish, is a testament to his individuality and creativity. He has received numerous awards and recognitions, including being one of the awardees of the first-ever Thirteen Artists Awards, honored by the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 1970, proving him as one of the most promising artists of his time and beyond.
