Ocampo. A self-taught local artist, Ocampo chose to stay within the Philippines instead of following the footsteps of contemporaries who chose to study all across the globe. Instead of foreign instructors, Ocampo hones his craft through reading art books and magazines, and tuning in to the world around him. As such, his abstracts emulate the tropical lushness of our country, a scenery which Emmanuel Torres relays as “the most daring and original in the Orient.”<br><br> These two paintings exhibit the originality that made Ocampo’s works a beacon for his fellow modernists. One in shades of warm tones and the other in green and brown, it is not hard to envision the colors as a sunny afternoon out in the forest. A true Filipino artist at heart, H.R. Ocampo’s works echo the vibrancy of the Philippine soil, rich with culture, history, and community. (Hannah Valiente)","lot_group":"PAINTING","lot_details_html":"<p><strong>Hernando R.
