Often depicting Filipino scenery and figures, this 1975 painting, entitled Saludo, showcases a glimpse of his excellence in the field of art. His artistic form and style were influenced by the neo-impressionist and expressionist movements. Practicing art as early as seven years old, Aguilar Cruz had already been wellversed in the field of art despite not finishing his studies at the University of the Philippines and treating that formal education as a course on how \"not\" to paint. His proficiency in modern style painting was a result of his self-teaching and observation—his legacy further preserved through his writings and artworks, which continue to be celebrated in the Philippine art scene.

Aguilar Cruz's featured piece depicts the interior of the Malacañang Palace, the official residence and the principal workplace of the President of the Philippines. The scene features a view from inside the palace, possibly the Rizal Ceremonial Hall (which is the largest room in the palace and is used for large dinners, assemblies, and state functions), due to the large windows surrounding the wall and the chandelier, which was both present in the painting and the available public images of the said hall. Inside the hall, many guests are standing on all sides, encircling the space as they all do a greeting bow as a form of salutation—hence the title of the work. (Saludo means \"Salute\" in English).

This modernist landscape piece, despite being distinctly Filipino, could also be described as having a \"French\" air to it, as the view looks seemingly familiar to what you usually see in the interior of a monarchial palace. Even the gestures of the guests present in the piece feel like they are greeting a monarch through salutations and giving the art piece an aura of aristocratic elegance, perfectly capturing Aguilar Cruz's magnificent signature that makes his works both influential and celebrated.
