Throughout the years, it underwent a series of modifications in terms of subjects and materials. To this day, artists have experimented with glass, brass, steel, and even ice in sculpting.<br><br> Michael Cacnio, born in 1969, presumably witnessed the evolution and development of contemporary Philippine sculpture. He was one of the most influential sculptors of this era, with his works centering on familial relations, jovial youth, vendors, and the resilience of the Filipino people. His genuine portrayal of everyday Philippine life lies in his healthy and bright upbringing.<br><br> In 2008, Cacnio held an exhibit titled \"Eclectic\" in which he \"exploits the malleability of his material to explore the material needs and desires of his fellow man,\" as described by the Philippine Star. He also unveiled for the first time some of his paintings on canvas in this exhibition. Cacnio's Acrobat, sculpted in 2012, is part of his Eclectic series. Like the exhibit description, this piece challenges the figure's ability and skill as an acrobat. Acrobats were likely part of our culture already, as they were commonly present in large-scale fiesta celebrations in the provinces. More so, this work could be a representation of the Filipino resilience being able to face difficult situations with aplomb.
