Unlike her popular works, this featured piece depicts a group of children playing hide and seek, with the seeker covering their eyes while the rest are hiding all around the painting some leaning behind a wall while others hiding themselves inside empty crates. What differentiates this piece from her later paintings is her use of dark and gloomy color schemes, indicating that the piece was created by Belleza during the earlier phases of her painting career. The expressions of the children hiding, some who are concerned holding hands as a sign of comfort, one bowing their head, while the others were covering their mouths, imply an aura of intensity and seeking quiet comfort through silence, hinting that the game of “hide and seek” as illustrated in this piece is far more than an innocent children’s game.
