The piece depicts a barefoot young man using a shoulder pole or yoke to carry two hanging, woven baskets—the familiar imagery that comes to mind when visualizing a figure of a rural maglalako or vendor. The acrylic painted piece extensively hints at Orencio’s origins of growing up in a rural environment, as the piece not only gives the observers a glimpse into the humble life you would usually experience living in a rural Filipino countryside, serving as a tribute to traditional rural life and labor, but it also showcases Filipinos’ core characteristics of being hardworking in their daily lives.
