When he staged his first exhibition, it was the working-class shoppers—not the hurried elite— who paused to study his work. These were the people he painted: the laborers, the overlooked, the resilient. “It is the richness of the poor that I am drawn to and which I am a part of, that I want to impart,” he has said.

n this piece Garibay channels this ethos into a visceral composition. A figure twists into a contorted pose, head bent, arms and legs folding into themselves as if under invisible weight. Rendered in urgent, expressive lines and washes of ochre and charcoal, the body appears both fragile and defiant—caught between collapse and resistance. The raw, almost chaotic strokes give the sense of a struggle still in motion, while the earthy palette grounds the figure in a timeless human reality.
