The shades of gray and charcoal black in the white canvas reflect the uneven color palettes of the urban roads usually seen in developed areas. The pitch black color of asphalt, combined with the unusually rough gray cement ground, usually reveals when the asphalt has eroded or been removed.

Pacquing's Earth shows how such contrasting colors from the urban environment were often overlooked, highlighting the artist's fascination with the subject matter. The piece mirrors the earth, with the soil contrasting against the industrial surface placed above it, creating an abstract yet grounded representation where the paint is treated as a material rather than just a medium of representation. It reflects the rawness of the natural world and its transformation by human action, through urbanization, decay, and the residue of the natural world.
