While his early works followed the traditional style in painting, he was most known for his colorful non-figurative works. He also explored a variety of mediums: from acrylic to oil, pastel, watercolor, graphite and charcoal, and pen and ink. From bold sweeps to fine lines, Joya created each of his works with utter knowledge and consideration of every stroke, color, space, and form. Joya’s diverse body of works is a testament to his exceptional skill and ingenuity, as befits one of the most celebrated National Artists of the Philippines.
