Using abstraction as a form of introspection and emotional expression, Drilon has made many pieces that explore his own reflections through visual language.

Finishing a degree in Fine Arts at UP Diliman, where he was taken under the mentorship of the National Artist Jose Joya, Drilon started his career in the field as a figurative expressionist, emerging in the 1970s and gaining prominence from his “Jeepney Series”, evolving over time and transitioning to abstraction in the 1980s to explore the convergence of figurative and abstract forms.

From his Yellow Foot No. 4, which highlights his evolving artistic practice, to his untitled piece that explores his introspections and reflections, Rock Drilon’s oeuvre provides observers a brief glimpse into his artistic journey—not only as a magnificent abstractionist but also as an individual. His figurative expressionist phase and his abstraction, which explore complex relationships between figurative and abstract forms, highlight Drilon’s brilliance in the field of Philippine Art.
