Adept in both abstraction and figuration, this particular landscape piece was just a few years after what was dubbed his “Barcelona years,” a period of his life where he founded a group of artists rebelling against the conservatism of the time. This piece, with its vivid colors and heavy-handed borders, is a testament to his formative European years, a continuation of his deconstruction and reconstruction of familiar sights.
