This untitled composition reveals the artist’s remarkable versatility and the assuredness of his hand. Here, he reimagines the still life not as a simple depiction of flora, but as an arena for formal experimentation. The leaves and flowers appear less as literal foliage and more as rhythmic expressions of motion and energy. The composition exudes a dynamic sense of balance; its angular geometry and overlapping shapes create a push and pull between structure and spontaneity. Through bold brushwork and a cubistic arrangement, Malang infuses the static motif of the vase with pulsating vitality. The result is a painting that seems to breathe, as though the artist sought not to capture the appearance of nature, but its inner pulse. Beyond the piece, one might also read the work through the lens of Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology of perception: the painting does not simply represent objects, but embodies the act of seeing itself, translating the vitality of observation into form. In this synthesis of intuition and design, Malang transforms the familiar genre of still life into an expressive meditation on perception, rhythm, and the modern condition of painting itself.
