It highlights a division between two drastically opposite shades, dissolving softly into one another and stripping their essence to evoke a contemplative mood—mirroring the artist’s Zen-inspired philosophy of seeing beyond the physical.

The masterpiece displays an abstraction that has a predominantly white hue, highlighting emptiness, purity, and illumination. However, as the gaze descends downwards, the pure white palette slowly transitions to gray and later charcoal black before attempting to go back to the original hue, the texture becomes denser and rougher as the white hue returns.

Digging deeper, the restrained color palette, shifting texture, and minimalist form promote stillness and introspection. The contrasting relationship between light and dark hints at the duality and harmony of opposites, echoing the “Yin-Yang” like Zen concepts of balance and transcendence and therefore, embodying Lao’s pursuit of art as a spiritual discipline where viewing becomes an act of meditation.
