He won first place for his \"Last Supper,\" an assemblage made from found objects such as tin cans and nails, in the 7th Annual Religious Art Competition. He also bagged the first and second place for Perspectus #7 and Algae, respectively, at the Art Association of the Philippines' Annual Art Competition. But for Hechanova, the most precious and remarkable award he received this year was the opportunity to stage a one-man show at the Northern Motors Showroom. This monumental event opened up numerous grants for studies and opportunities for his art to gain recognition. <br /><br /> Metroscape No. 6, dated 1967, was included in Hechanova's 3rd solo exhibition, held at the Luz Gallery. This piece offers a bird's-eye view of the metro. Amid the tall buildings, the artist was still able to capture the hustle and bustle of the city below. The lights from the buildings and streets are on, casting a soft glow throughout the busy nighttime scene. The following year, his sculpture, Allegory in Aluminum, won first place in the First National Sculpture Competition, which granted him the opportunity to represent the Philippines in the VI Paris Biennale in 1969.
