A master of glass sculpture, an Orlina piece must be viewed from all angles to truly appreciate, with sunlight a central tenet to be considered. <br /><br />“With glass, I am not only making sculptures in-the-round but sculpture inside the round,” he says in this book, Visions of Glass. “[Then] when I am actually cutting the glass, I must play with the light. See the effects inside and react to whatever is discovered along the way. The creative process is unpredictable and spontaneous.” <br /><br />This lot of Orlina sculptures, created in the span between 2011 and 2018, contains five pieces done in vivid blue. Entitled Tranquil, Compelling, Magnificence in Blue II – 2011, Indomitable, and Radiant, these pieces portray the best of Orlina. The sharp edges of the sculptures are perfectly shaped to catch the stray sunlight, illuminating the piece almost from within. <br /><br />A true master of glass, Orlina’s works inspire reverence. This lot is a veritable testament of the artist’s skill, a talent that maestros of other mediums acknowledge — As National Artist for Sculpture Napoleon V.
