Completely transforming what seems to be a daily task into an image of strength and serenity.

The art piece gave an image of two women washing clothes by the water, set against a backdrop of hanging laundry—a generic scene of quiet labor and companionship, elevated to a subject of beauty and grace.

The way the human figures had gentle postures and seemingly facing each other as if they were talking while wearing traditional clothes, suggests humbleness and companionship. While the faceless and simplified forms universalize their experience into a shared cultural identity rooted in simplicity, community, and resilience.

Oscar Zalameda had successfully synthesized his geometric abstraction to tackle Filipino cultural themes relating to Rural Filipino life. His laundry women became a poetic tribute to our spirit and identity as a whole—Calm, humble, reflective, and harmonious.
